CAMERON STALLONES & NICHOLAS MALKIN present "MUSIC FROM HARVESTER," COMPOSITIONS FOR FARFISA VIP345 & GUITAR 2xC40, ed. of 150 [SA040]
Not since the regal, wobbling transmissions from the SOHNI CHAMBERS have these two been present on tape together. The occasion: creating a score for visual artist Abbe Findley's film "HARVESTER," a compendium of footage of harvesting machines from around the world. In a special, softly-carpeted chamber procured just far enough off a dirt road in Joshua Tree, CA, the two cloistered themselves for several days of organ and guitar explorations fueled only by hot-plate burritos and date shakes. On this double cassette, dear listener, find the monumental results: bleary but startling, dynamic compositions that wander in all directions through a fading golden light, consistently subverting the sonic limitations of the simple instrumentation. Ranging from sublimely pastoral horizontals to increasingly unnerving non-Euclideans, there's something here for the whole family. Truly a "large-scale work," recorded on cassette, and presented on 2 gold cassettes.

Sir Muthaship is only the latest vehicle of reliably seasick sea-captain Pete Hope. A sweated hand upon the 4-track, he guides the unmarked sloop from one steaming, disreputable port to another by wan moonlight. What emerges when the shore-haze finally lifts is a cassette of Ten Blues, funny little boogies that must describe what the cybernetics are up to in the lamp-lit driftwood shacks that lean seaward out of the shadowed mangroves. A busy little series of shakes, for when shakin' is the quickest way out. A series of stuttering revolutions that put the "fun" in "malfunction." Presented on a tar-black cassette.
A.C. BAND/SADISTIC CANDLE - ST/ST 2xC40, ed. of 100 [SA043]
A double album almost three years in the making, Barrett Avner (Black Bananas, Sic Alps, Sun Araw Band) returns to solo recorded work with a double-double. In the classic "two-sides of" conceit, Cassette 1 offers Mr. Avner piloting A.C. Band through a series of sensitive rock tunes with chicken shack guitar squawks worthy of the best Hagerty compositions, acoustic jangles worthy of F.J. Mcmahon, and harmonized solos worthy of Thin Lizzy. The sound of a chili-dog exercising Emersonian self-reliance. But then! Cassette 2 presents the return of SADISTIC CANDLE, now with bombastic double-down reverbed Schoolly D 808s and boogie synths building scaffolds for face-melting Maggot Brain solos. The sound of a giant, cartoon basketball sneaker on the loose. Together this double-album functions as a tribute to Barrett's grandfather Chuck Avner, who founded and ran the Ohio men's fashion boutique Man Talk Intl., which served Cleveland's swinging, funk/boogie scene. Both albums are presented in collaboration with the spirit of Man Talk Intl., and with its blessing. Truly, a mix of music this explosive and strange could only come from one man, and that man is my genius friend Barrett Avner. Presented on 2 mustard yellow cassettes.
S. Araw "Trio" XI is a new configuration of the Sun Araw Band, the live-action collaborative branch of Sun Araw. Over the course of several studio dates in Hollywood, California, "Trio" players Cameron Stallones, Alex Gray, and Mitchell Brown (with no prior intentions of doing any such thing) successfully planted a garden of "non-dimensional" objects, not only spontaneously generating these objects but also mastering their nurture and cultivation. And You Can Too!
Gazebo Effect is a 2xLP nocturnal stroll into the depths of the garden, its upper lawns and outbuildings. The listener is advised that as the objects have been "set growing" their location at any given time is difficult to predict. The Garden cannot be exited by the path it is entered, the angles involved being extremely precise. These factors (and others) clearly illustrate the value for oneself (and others) in the building of an observational structure: The Gazebo. However, it must be understood that the presence of this structure has a transformative effect on The Garden Itself.
In other words, the "Gazebo Effect" is a music production system that allows a performance to be obstructed & (thus) interpreted while it is being played. What a Savings!

YONYE is the first vinyl release of Ghanaian Master of the Gyil SK Kakraba.
SK Kakraba Lobi is a Master Xylophonist from Ghana, the son of Master Xlophonist Kakraba Lobi. SK is a Master of the Gyil, which means that he is both an instrument maker and a virtuoso performer. The Gyil is the Ghanaian Xylophone, and the primary instrument of the Lobi, Sisala, and Dagara people of Northern Ghana. It is constructed of 14 wooden slats suspended over calabash gourds that have been fitted with resonators.
SK has recently moved to Los Angeles, CA and YONYE is a compilation of solo recordings made here.

RANDALL McCLELLAN - THE HEALING MUSIC OF RANA [SA034, ed. of 200]
Randall McClellan was a founding member of the electronic music studio at the Eastman School of Music in 1967 where he later received a Ph.D. in Composition, Theory and Musicology. A growing interest in North Indian music and vocal technique prompted him to develop his personal compositional practice into an active platform for inducing altered states of mind. He constructed his concerts to be spaces for harmonization of mind and body through a musical practice informed by his esoteric studies of ancient mystery schools and sacred geometry, believing these to be primarily teachings on intentional resonance.
Compiled with the assistance of his friend J.D. Emmanuel, this 4 cassette box is the complete recorded works of Randall McClellan, previously issued as individual cassettes, as well as a lecture on the relationship of music and esotericism with synthesizer accompaniment entitled, "The Healing Power of Music." Oakland-based EL TOPO delivers unbelievably righteous, vital free-jazz sweatlabs, stripped to sax and drums except for an incendiary cameo by Isaiah Miller of Earthless-fame. The stops and turns are on a dime, endlessly unspooling around fresh corners with forceful delicacy. True stolen base leaders.
PATHWAYS is Michael Sholtz of otherness-noise theremin trio FARADAY TRIPPERS. Here rather than joining far-sighted brethren in mystical oscillator movements, he is bent solo over vast, curling sheets of guitar. Perfect twilight meditations with stakes planted on both sides of that barrier.

A reissue of an under-heard classic from the Space Wizard himself. A true honor to put this back on cassette. From the mouth of the man:
"Created in 1980-81, this album continues my mix of electronics and jazz. The instrumentation on this album was a Crumar Traveler 1 organ, Yamaha CS-15 Synthesizer, Octave Cat Synthesizer, Yairi DY-74 acoustic guitar with an Echoplex EP-4, Ross Phaser pedal and a DOD Compressor/Limiter pedal. A Teac 4 channel reel deck was used for the multi-tracked recording.
Side one starts with a tape loop using the Crumar Organ mixed with wind chimes and birds that were recorded live. The next two pieces were created with acoustic guitar and synthesizer. The final piece is using the organ.
Greg Kelly, exceptional guitarist friend of mine, plays the acoustic guitar on Memories of Atlantis, which we co-wrote.
Side two is all multi-tracked organ and synthesizers."

Los Angeles master of analog video synthesis Miko Revereza spent a late night navigating the fungal canyons of the SUN ARAW/MATTHEWDAVID LIVEPHREAXXX collaboration, and presented this document of his voyage through the A side of the original tape. Truly some of the most beautiful examples of his video feedback work, endlessly folding, endlessly bubbling, revealing the organic, regenerative heart that who-knew lurked in this technology, all washed in gorgeous pastels. This is really special.

Hookworms fling themselves headlong into classic 80's/90's psych-rock like they're trying to break something. Hailing from Leeds and cramming themselves giddily within the well established formal properties of the genre, they walk the scorched road behind Loop, Spectrum, and any other titan of two-chord songs who's ever slowly wah-ed a chord until they saw colors. Most excellent burners!
